HP Driver 5550 Deskjet
Driver installation instructions under O.S. Windows 95 - home users:
Driver is designed for use on computer systems that will be directly connected to the printer from the computer through a parallel cable on Windows 95/98/ME or a USB or parallel cable on Windows 98/ME.
Caution: The printer's cable (USB or Parallel) must be unplugged before proceeding!
Procedure:
Make a new folder on the harddrive: c:\hpdj5550 before downloading the printer driver.
Download the driver to the newly created c:\dj5550 folder.
Open the c:\hpdj5550 folder and double-click on the just downloaded "exe" file. Once the files are loaded and the driver installation-screen displays, follow the instructions on the installer screen. If this screen does not display, continue with the next step to manually open the screen.
Double-click on the c:\hpdj5550\Win9X_ME folder.
Double-click on the "setup.exe" file to begin the installation program.
Follow the instructions on the installer screens to complete the installation.
Driver installation instructions under O.S. Windows 95 - corparate users:
Create a new folder on the hard drive: c:\dj5550 before downloading the printer driver.
Download the driver to the newly created c:\dj5550 folder.
Plug the parallel cable into the printer and PC.
Open the c:\hpdj5550 folder and double-click the downloaded "exe" file.
Under c:\hpdj5550\9xinf folder a three letter language folder will be displayed. For example, the English driver will display a folder named "enu". This folder was created when by double-clicking on the downloaded "exe" file.
From Windows, click "Start", "Settings", "Printers".
Next, double-click on "Add Printer".
When the Add Printer Wizard screen appears, click "Next".
Choose "Local Printer" and click "Next" (applicable in Windows 98/ME).
To continue, click the "Have Disk" button.
Next, click "Browse" and move to the folder "c:\hpdj5550\9xinf\enu\drivers\Win9x_ME". An "hpf5550x.inf" file will be displayed. Select the file name and click "OK".
Click "OK" to continue. "hp deskjet 5550 series" will now be found in the Printers column. Now, click the "Next" button.
Choose "LPT1" and click "Next".
If another printer driver is installed on the PC, select "Yes" or "No" to use this printer as the default printer and click "Finish". The hp deskjet 5550 series printer driver will be added to the "Printers" window.
